3 hospitalized following multi-car crash in Van Nuys

VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) —

Three people were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after a driver suspected of driving under the influence crashed into three cars near a Metro bus line in Van Nuys.

Authorities began following a suspect traveling at more than 60 mph down Sepulveda Boulevard when the person failed to stop for officers. At one point, Los Angeles police officers lost the car.

It was spotted a short time later heading north down Sepulveda, but officers lost sight of it again. Just north of Oxnard Street, officers found the car after it had crashed near the orange line.

Three people, including the suspect, were taken to a nearby hospital in unknown conditions. The suspect and one other driver were trapped in their cars for some time before Los Angeles firefighters were able to extract them.

The Metro bus line was rerouted, and the intersection will be shut down for a few hours.
