BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KABC) —

A Bakersfield police officer with ties to Burbank was killed Friday in the line of duty.

Officer David Nelson died when his police cruiser crashed into a wall during a pursuit. He was 26.

Burbank and Glendale police officers saluted the van carrying Nelson’s remains to forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Nelson worked as a Burbank police cadet from 2008 to 2012 before joining Bakersfied Police Department two years ago. He attended Burbank High School.
