A Chino police motorcycle officer survived a collision with a pickup truck that closed a freeway off ramp during the evening commute, investigators say.
A helicopter crew flew the policeman to a hospital following the 2:01 p.m. wreck Monday, Nov. 30, along Central Avenue at Hwy. 60.
“He was responding to an emergency call … for backup assistance for another officer involving an uncooperative suspect,” said city spokeswoman Monica Gutierrez. “He is in stable condition, conscious and responding.”
The intersection crash involved a Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
“The driver … walked away (with) no injuries,” Gutierrez said.
California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the accident. No one was available Monday afternoon at the CHP’s Rancho Cucamonga office to provide preliminary findings.
The investigation closed Central Avenue in the immediate area of the crash along with the off-ramp from the westbound lanes of Hwy. 60.
“They will be shut down for a couple of more hours,” Gutierrez said shortly before 5 p.m.
