A motorist suffered minor injuries when his vehicle was rear-ended by a stolen U-Haul pickup truck during a police pursuit along a major roadway in Colton, investigators say.
The crash happened Thursday night, Sept. 24, along Mount Vernon Avenue just south of E Street, about a third-mile north of Interstate 10.
The chase began near Washington Street and Meadow Lane, about 2 miles from the crash scene, police said. The impact wrecked the U-Haul truck’s front end — and crushed the entire back end of the victim’s compact car.
“The driver of the stolen U-Haul fled after the crash,” Detective Ray Mendez said Friday. “He eventually was taken into custody.”
The investigation closed a one-block section of Mount Vernon Avenue’s northbound lanes for several hours.
