MORENO VALLEY: Suspect in fatal crash ID’d

A man who officials say killed a woman in a crash at the end of a car chase that stretched from Beaumont to Moreno Valley was identified on Saturday, Dec. 26.

Simon Peter Gerard Linares, 53, of Upland, was taken into custody and, as of Saturday afternoon, was being treated for injuries sustained during the crash. When he is healthy enough to be booked, he will be arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving while drunk, CHP officials said in a news release.

The chase began about 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 25, when Beaumont police tried to pull over Linares for running a red light in a 2013 Nissan Frontier, the release said.

He failed to yield, triggering the chase. During the pursuit, Linares used his car to hit a Beaumont officer’s vehicle, officials said.

The suspect led officers into Moreno Valley where he ran a light at Fredrick Street and Alessandro Boulevard and struck a 2008 Toyota Corolla, police said.

A 56-year-old Mira Loma woman was driving the Corolla with a passenger, a 76-year-old woman, also of Mira Loma, through the intersection on a green light when the suspect T-boned them. Both women were taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center where the older woman died, officials said.

The victim’s name is being withheld until her family can be notified.
