Moreno Valley woman killed in crash with wrong-way driver in San Bernardino

A Moreno Valley woman died after her vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver believed to be intoxicated early Sunday morning, Sept. 19, on Highway 259 in San Bernardino, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 2:17 a.m. on northbound Highway 259 north of 27th Street, said Officer Ivan Sandoval, spokesman for the CHP. A Moreno Valley woman was driving a Subaru north when she was struck by the wrong-way driver, Sandoval said.

The woman, whose identity was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene, Sandoval said.

The wrong-way driver was taken to a hospital in critical yet stable condition, Sandoval said. Due to the extent of his injuries, the wrong-way driver has not been able to speak to investigators, Sandoval said.

The young man, whose identity was not immediately available, was believed to be intoxicated while driving early Sunday morning, Sandoval said.
