An afternoon crash killed a 73-year-old Ontario grandmother and sent both of her young grand-daughters to the hospital, say city police.
The woman died soon after the 1:47 p.m. wreck Wednesday, Oct. 14, along Riverside Drive, just east of Vineyard Avenue, about three-quarters of a mile south of Highway 60.
She was driving a gray Ford Taurus when she pulled out of a 7-Eleven parking lot directly into the path of a westbound, black Chevy Tahoe SUV, Detective Bill Russell said in a written statement. The SUV slammed into the driver’s door of the Taurus.
Both of the woman’s grand-daughters — ages 8 and 10 — suffered what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
The Tahoe was driven by a 27-year-old Fontana woman who was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Investigators believe two truck drivers may have witnessed the crash and would like them to call Officer Marshall Martinez at 909-395-2001, extension 4679.
