Pilot killed in Llano crash was helping wounded veterans

LLANO, Calif. (KABC) —

A pilot who died in a small plane crash north of Llano in Los Angeles County Thursday was giving free glider rides to wounded military veterans.

Channing Morse, 67, of San Diego died when his plane crashed at Pearblossom Highway and 165th East at about 12:20 p.m. The area is near a glider flight training school.

Mors was a volunteer with the Wounded Warrior Project, an experimental test pilot and U.S. Air Force Academy graduate.

He’s survived by his wife, a daughter and a grandchild.
