Police seek suspect after stolen car crashes at Fort Meade

Duque Law - Personal Injury Lawyers

FORT MEADE, Md. —

Police say someone crashed a stolen car at an unmanned gate at Fort Meade in Maryland and then fled onto the campus, which is home to the National Security Agency.

Anne Arundel County police say officers pulled over a car Wednesday night, but the driver sped off.

Police spokesman Lt. Glenn Shanahan says say the car crashed at a gate at Fort Meade and the driver ran onto the base. He says the car was identified as one that had been stolen in a carjacking in Baltimore.

Shanahan says no officers were injured.

Fort Meade is functioning on reduced operations and six area schools are closed. To help police in the search for the suspect, Fort Meade officials announced Thursday morning that only mission essential personnel should report and residents should remain indoors.

The incident comes months after NSA police fatally shot two people who ignored orders to turn around a stolen SUV at a security gate at the base March 30.
