Pursuit ends in crash, officer-involved shooting in Buena Park

A suspect fleeing from police in an SUV in Buena Park ended in an officer-involved shooting early Thursday, police said.

Officers were called at about 3:12 a.m. to the area of Valley View Street and Panama Drive, where a vehicle was seen possibly casing the area, said Sgt. Mario Escamilla.

The officers tried to stop the vehicle but it kept moving, Escamilla said, though it did not get far.

The driver slammed into multiple parked cars and hit a police vehicle in the process. The collision prompted the officer-involved shooting, though no one was hit by gunfire, Escamilla said.

Police would not give details about how many shots were fired, citing the ongoing investigation.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly after.
