An investigation in underway into a plane that fell out of the sky in Riverside and landed in a house’s backyard killing the pilot, an official said.
An investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board was at the house near Adams Street and San Vicente Avenue on Monday, July 28, trying to piece together what went wrong Sunday evening that caused the plane to come down, said Terry Williams, a spokesman with the agency.
“He’s going to be looking at the aircraft, he’s going to be looking at where it came to rest,” Williams said.
The airplane was still in the backyard where it crashed Monday morning, but officials planned to move it Monday, he said.
The small, single-engine Beechcraft & Bonanza airplane crashed shortly after 5:03 p.m. when the pilot radioed in to Riverside Municipal Airport saying his plane was having engine trouble and he didn’t think he was going to make the landing, a Riverside Fire Department official said.
The pilot has not been identified and the only damage the crash caused was to a fence, officials said.
