A Perris man died Wednesday night, Jan. 13, after getting hit by a car on the 91 in Riverside.

The 21-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a California Highway Patrol news release issued Thursday morning. It’s unclear why the man was in the No. 2 lane of westbound 91 east of Ivy Street, where he was struck.

The driver of the car that struck the man failed to stop and continued traveling west on the 91 after the crash occurred about 10:20 p.m.

Cars on the westbound 91 freeway were hitting a body in the road, initially blocking all lanes, Caltrans and CHP officials said.

The coroner had been called to the scene, and a Sig Alert was requested.

The CHP is asking for the public’s help in appending the driver involved in the crash. Anyone with further information is asked to call CHP’s Riverside-area office at 951-637-8000.
