SAN BERNARDINO: Car crash turns manhunt

An afternoon car crash turned into a hunt for a gunman who escaped into a San Bernardino housing project, police say.
The wreck involved about four vehicles and was reported at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, along the 600 block of East Base Line, about a block east of Waterman Avenue.
A man involved in the crash hopped out of his vehicle and pointed a handgun at another person involved in the accident, said Lt. Dan Gomez.�
No shots were fired, and no one was hurt. But the gunman ran into the nearby Waterman Gardens housing complex, prompting police to cordon off the area and search at leat one apartment — without success.
The search was abandoned about 2:10 p.m.
