SAN BERNARDINO: Elderly woman killed in hit-and-run crash (UPDATE)

A hit-and-run driver killed an woman in a San Bernardino crosswalk, police say, marking the city’s 37th traffic fatality this year – greatly surpassing the community’s 23 homicide deaths.

The crash was reported at 5:38 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Ninth and L streets.

The victim’s name was not immediately released. She was an Hispanic woman in her early 80s, said Sgt. Vicki Cervantes.

The woman was walking north in the Ninth Street crosswalk when she was hit by an eastbound motorist who didn’t stop, Cervantes said.

Little information was immediately available about the car and driver, as police searched for witnesses and surveillance video of the incident.
