SAN BERNARDINO: Gang-related, drive-by shooting ends in fatal crash

A carload of gang members shot at a rival gang member and missed, but their SUV slammed into a tree, killing one of the occupants, say San Bernardino police.
The gunfire erupted at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, along the 1200 block of North Blackstone Avenue.
The target — a man in his 20s — ran away, Sgt. Vicki Cervantes said in a written statement.
But the 2015 Dodge Journey went out of control, jumped a curb and crashed. During the accident, 22-year-old James Eley of San Bernardino was ejected from a passenger seat and later died at Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to the statement.
The driver and remaining passengers ran away, but showed up at a hospital for treatment of crash-related injuries.
Arrested at 11:30 p.m. at San Bernardino Community Medical Center was 26-year-old Ronald James Lewis, who was booked for investigation of attempted murder, vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run driving resulting in injury or death, jail records show.�
Arrested for attempted murder was 23-year-old Kendrick Marques Jackson, jail records show.�
Both men are behing held on $1 million bail.
