Sun Valley shooting suspect killed in crash after chase exceeds 100 mph

SAN FERNANDO, Calif. (KABC) —

A shooting suspect fleeing police died after crashing his motorcycle into a fire hydrant in San Fernando early Wednesday morning.

Los Angeles police responded to a report of shots fired from Sun Valley. No one was hit.

Around 2 a.m., a chase ensued with a suspect on a motorcycle. Police believed he was involved in the Sun Valley shooting.

The pursuit reached speeds as high as 130 mph, police told Eyewitness News.

LAPD backed off from the chase due to the extreme speed. A short time later, the suspect ended up slamming into a hydrant on the 1200 block of Truman Street. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Truman Street between San Fernando Mission Boulevard and Workman Street were shut down for the investigation.
