Two days after a golf cart crash killed two men and their dogs in Thousand Palms, county coroner’s officials have identified the victims as elderly Candadians from British Columbia.

Ronald Little, 76, lived in the recreational and retirement community of Lac La Hache. Neil Frederick Karran, 77, lived in Cawston.

Both died at the scene of the Wednesday afternoon collision between the golf cart and a 2006 Mercedes ML350 at Desert Moon Road and Colonial Drive.

The motorist — 32-year-old Angela Lavanty of Palm Desert — is the subject of a murder investigation, say California Highway Patrol officers.

“The speed limit on Desert Moon is 25 miles per hour, however we estimate the Mercedes was traveling in excess of 50 miles per hour,” Officer Mike Radford said in a written statement.

Angela Marie Lavanty is being prosecuted on two counts of murder, two counts of animal cruelty, and one count each of driving under the influence of drugs resulting in injury, and driving on a suspended or revoked license, court records show.
