An on-duty Pasadena motorcycle officer was hurt after a crash on Interstate 210 in Upland about 4:50 p.m. Monday, April 20.

COURTESY OF CALTRANS

An on-duty Pasadena motorcycle officer was airlifted to a hospital – prompting the closure of all lanes on Interstate 210 — after a crash in Upland, the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans officials said.

The extent of the officer’s injuries wasn’t immediately available.

About 4:50 p.m. Monday, April 20, a 2002 Nissan Altima driven by Jerry Gonzalez, of San Bernardino, was traveling in the eastbound carpool lane of I-210 east of Euclid Avenue, the CHP said in a news release.

For unknown reasons, the Altima collided with the officer’s 2011 Honda patrol motorcycle, throwing the officer onto the freeway, investigators said.

Gonzalez was not hurt.

No other vehicles were involved.

The crash prompted a full closure of the freeway about 5 p.m. so a medical helicopter could land, Caltrans and the CHP said. The officer was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.

By 5:40 p.m., three lanes remained blocked. About an hour after that, all lanes reopened.
