Woman waiting at Santa Ana bus stop killed by car that also hit tree in 3-vehicle crash
A 31-year-old woman waiting at a bus stop was killed after she was hit by a car in a chain-reaction crash on Thursday, Dec. 6, in Santa Ana.
The car also knocked down a palm tree during the three-vehicle incident.
Just before 10 a.m., a car traveling southbound on Main Street near 15th Street rear-ended a vehicle, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
“Both go on the sidewalk, and one of them spins out,” he said. “The other sheers off a palm tree. Next to it there is a bus stop … and (the car) hits her.”
The vehicle that spun out hit a third vehicle, which sustained some damage.
The woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after. The three drivers complained of pain but were not hospitalized.
Bertagna said investigators were trying to determine what led to the first car colliding with the second, and if it was related to the storm that moved into the region on Thursday.
“It was pouring at the time of the crash,” he said.
