The driver of a tour bus that crashed in Yucaipa in 2013, killing eight, was arrested Wednesday morning, Nov. 18, after being charged with eight counts of felony vehicular manslaughter.

Norberto Bravo Perez, 55, of San Ysidro, faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

Perez is tentatively scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the San Bernardino Justice Center.

The bus crashed on Highway 38 on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, between Mentone and Forest Falls. The bus, which originated from Tijuana, was heading back to Mexico from Big Bear.

Witnesses said the brakes failed, causing the bus to careen out of control down the mountain. Seven passengers died, and Fred Richardson, driving another vehicle, died days after the crash.

“Thanks to the thorough investigative work of the California Highway Patrol and the National Transportation Safety Board, we were able to finally determine what occurred that horrible night when a bus full of people lost control and crashed on a mountain road,” District Attorney Mike Ramos said. “We intend to seek justice on behalf of the victims and their families.”
